Betoraurau Good Samaritans Take Feeding Program Tri-State

The streets of Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth are seeing a renewed glimmer of hope as the Betoraurau Good Samaritans Inc. officially expands its outreach program. What began as a local initiative has now grown into a coordinated mission to support street beggars and the homeless across Victoria, New South Wales, and the WA.
At the heart of this expansion is the Fijian virtue of Loloma—a deep, selfless love for others. By stepping onto the pavements to share hot meals and a kind word, the Betoraurau diaspora is proving that their commitment to their new home in Australia is as strong as their bond to their roots in Fiji.
“Our expansion is driven by a simple belief: humanity knows no borders,” says Mrs. Temalesi Rayaqona, spokesperson for the charity. “When we see someone struggling on the streets of our Australian cities, we don’t just see a stranger; we see a brother or a sister. To practice Loloma is to give without expecting anything in return, and seeing the impact of a warm meal on a cold night inspires our team to do even more.”
The success of the initial rounds has sparked a new wave of energy within the organization. The sight of volunteers—ranging from elders to the youth—uniting to serve has become a powerful catalyst for growth.
“The gratitude we receive from the people we meet is humbling,” Mrs. Rayaqona shares. “It reminds us that our diaspora community has a unique role to play. We aren’t just living in Australia; we are active participants in its well-being. This inspiration is what fuels our resolve to reach every corner where help is needed.”
Looking ahead to the coming quarter, the society has set ambitious goals to increase the frequency of these feeding drives. A key part of this strategy involves mobilizing more members of the Betoraurau diaspora to step forward. The organization is calling on all sons and daughters of Betoraurau, along with their friends and extended families, to join the “Giving Back” program.
“We aspire to make this program a permanent pillar of our society,” Mrs. Rayaqona explains. “In the next three months, we want to engage more of our people to volunteer their time, their cooking skills, and their hearts. There is a special kind of blessing in service, and we want every member of our diaspora to experience the joy of making a tangible difference.”
As the Betoraurau Good Samaritans Inc. moves forward, they carry with them the spirit of the islands—transformed into a beacon of compassion for the vulnerable in Australia.
